Douglas Richardson
Douglas Richardson is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with nearly two decades of experience in substance use and mental wellness treatment. Since 2005, he has been dedicated to helping individuals navigate the challenges of co-occurring disorders, where substance use and mental health issues intersect. Licensed since 2009, Douglas brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to his practice.
Douglas earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and holds a Master’s in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. During his academic journey, he was recognized with numerous awards and later shared his expertise as a Sociology instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma for two years.
In his practice, Douglas primarily employs Client-Centered Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, focusing on building strong, supportive relationships with his clients. He believes that understanding and addressing the underlying causes of disturbances—both in the community and at home—is crucial to fostering mental health and reducing substance use. His collaborative approach with community partners aims to guide referrals toward a healthier lifestyle.
Douglas is passionate about increasing awareness of mental health and substance use issues. He advocates for diverting resources from punishment to treatment and emphasizes the importance of educating parents and teachers about recognizing signs of depression and anxiety in children and adolescents. By raising community awareness and fostering understanding, he strives to ensure that no opportunity for early intervention is missed, helping every child grow up in a supportive environment.
